PROFESSIONAL HISTORY
Work Experience
Assistant News Director, KCUR 89.3
October 2022 - present
I help decide what news we cover each day and in what format. I work with other stations and nonprofit newsrooms to share reporting and resources.
I also manage three reporters who cover education, local government and public safety. I help them shape pitches into stories and develop sound-rich spots and features as well as engaging and informative web stories.
I led our immediate response to the Chiefs Super Bowl parade shooting, and coordinated a partnership that enabled us to do long-term reporting on the aftermath.
I was promoted from News Editor to Assistant News Director in June 2024 after a four-month stint as Interim News Director.
Education reporter, Wisconsin Public Radio
April 2020 - August 2022
I covered students and families in public and private schools, as well as child care and early education programs, across the state - including the pandemic closure of in-person school and how families handled education and disconnection from school building resources.
I also covered major breaking stories in Southeast Wisconsin, including the Kenosha police shooting and protester shootings, Black Lives Matter protests and Waukesha Christmas parade incident, for WPR as well as national and international outlets.
Palm Beach County reporter, WLRN
April 2019 - April 2020
I handled breaking news and tracked major issues and offbeat stories to
report and produce a steady stream of dailies and features reflecting the diversity of Palm Beach County.
I focused particularly on immigrant communities, opioids and how individuals and governments are preparing for climate change.
Social welfare reporter, Kansas News Service
October 2017 - March 2019
I produced coverage of social welfare, including foster care, state assistance
programs, mental health issues, housing and youth immigration that
routinely broke news and drove agency and legislative change for a
collaboration of public radio stations in Kansas.
